Exploring Ghent, Belgium, Part II

It was our lucky night. The Italian place was all booked up, so we decided on a whim to try to get into Godot, one of the hottest spots in town. We held our breath until the hostess smiled and waved us over to an open table against the wall.

The lighting is low, the mood is smooth and sexy. The clientele are diverse. Young, single (we hope) women sip cocktails in one corner while a family of four digs into large white plates weighed down with pasta and sizzling cuts of steak.

I order the lamb and the presentation is impressive. Juicy chops hot from the grill lay on a bed of cooked seasonal vegetables. Though lacking a certain robustness in flavor, the lamb is tender and tasty, paring well with the soft potatoes.

We had our minds set on pasta tonight, but I’m glad those plans changed.
